India's independent standards and accreditation body for artificial intelligence in healthcare — ensuring that AI systems deployed in clinical settings are safe, accountable, and equitable.
Explore Our Mission →Who We Are
The Foundation for Ethical AI in Healthcare (FEAIH) is India's first independent, not-for-profit body dedicated to establishing standards, frameworks, and accreditation pathways for artificial intelligence used in clinical and healthcare settings.
We operate at the intersection of technology, medicine, and governance — working with regulators, academic institutions, healthcare providers, and AI developers to build a trustworthy ecosystem for healthcare AI in India.
As a Section 8 company registered under the Companies Act, 2013, FEAIH is constitutionally bound to its public interest mission. We do not endorse commercial products. We do not accept funding that compromises our independence.
Our work is grounded in the belief that the deployment of AI in healthcare must be earned through demonstrated safety, transparency, and accountability — not assumed through capability alone.
Developing the Indian Healthcare AI Standards (IHAS) — a rigorous, evidence-based framework for evaluating AI systems across safety, fairness, transparency, and clinical validity.
Operating a three-tier accreditation pathway that enables AI developers and healthcare institutions to demonstrate compliance with IHAS standards through independent assessment.
Contributing to national policy discourse on healthcare AI regulation, publishing original research, and building capacity among clinicians, regulators, and technologists.
Standards Framework
The IHAS framework provides a structured, three-tier pathway for evaluating and recognising AI systems deployed in Indian healthcare. Each tier represents a progressively rigorous level of independent assessment.
Recognition that an AI system has met baseline documentation and transparency requirements. Systems at this tier have declared their intended use, training data provenance, and known limitations in a standardised format.
Independent technical validation of system performance against IHAS benchmarks, including assessment of clinical validity, bias evaluation across demographic subgroups, and robustness testing.
The highest recognition — awarded to systems that have demonstrated sustained compliance with IHAS standards through real-world deployment monitoring, clinical outcome tracking, and ongoing governance processes.
Leadership
FEAIH is governed by a board committed to scientific rigour, institutional independence, and the long-term public interest of patients and healthcare systems across India.
